Rolling farm-and-forest country around the two Blaník hills, where the legendary knights sleep — quiet mid-Bohemian walking at its most typical.

Every walk here points sooner or later at the twin hills. The natural summit moment is the lookout tower on Velký Blaník, built to look like a hussite watchtower — with Malý Blaník‘s chapel ruin as the quieter counterpart, and the legend that an army of knights sleeps under the bigger hill until the country’s darkest hour comes free with the climb. The CHKO protecting the pair (1981) is one of the smallest in the country, and trains put you within reach fast: about an hour to Benešov, an hour and a half to Vlašim.

The walking is gentle and villages come at friendly intervals — Louňovice pod Blaníkem, Kondrac, the town of Vlašim with its romantic chateau park. It is a region for unhurried days: modest climbs, long views over farmland, and the feeling that nothing here has changed in a generation.
