Malý Blaník

The quieter twin of Velký Blaník, hiding the atmospheric ruin of St. Mary Magdalene's chapel with a huge spruce growing out of its nave.
Near the summit stands what is left of the baroque chapel of St. Mary Magdalene, finished in 1753 and closed only thirty years later by Joseph II’s reforms; the roof fell in 1812 and the walls have stood open to the sky since. Out of the nave grows a huge old spruce known as Velký Mnich — “the Great Monk”.
It is a quiet, atmospheric spot, and the smaller hill is worth the detour whenever a walk brings you past its bigger twin.

A train-to-train day over both Blaník hills: red waymarks from Domašín to Louňovice, the chapel ruin on Malý Blaník, the lookout tower on Velký, and a walk down through Kondrac to Vlašim.
