Kalvárie u Miličína

A 698 m hill above Miličín in the heart of "Czech Siberia" — an octagonal baroque chapel from 1748 reached by a fourteen-station Way of the Cross, with a rock lion in the woods behind.

The Kalvárie is the crown of Česká Sibiř — “Czech Siberia”, as the cold uplands between Votice and Tábor have been called for over a century. Above the little town of Miličín on the old Prague–Tábor road, a Way of the Cross of fourteen stations climbs to an octagonal baroque chapel of the Passion of Christ from 1748, and the open hilltop at 698 m explains the nickname: the wind here works year-round, and in winter the name feels earned. The view runs over the Miličín highlands towards Blaník and the Vltava hills.

In the woods beyond the top hides the Miličín lion — a rock formation that looks convincingly like a lying lion, with the local legends to match.
