Růžkovy Lhotice
castle · Podblanicko
An 18th-century baroque chateau where Bedřich Smetana spent childhood years from 1835 — now a Muzeum Podblanicka branch with the "Musical traditions of Podblanicko" exhibition.
Růžkovy Lhotice is a hamlet with one claim that outweighs its size: the small baroque chateau here belonged in the first half of the 19th century to the parents of Bedřich Smetana, and the composer spent part of his childhood on the estate from 1835. After a long reconstruction the building became a branch of the Muzeum Podblanicka; its exhibition “Musical traditions of Podblanicko” is devoted to the region’s musical heritage and the beginnings of Smetana’s work, and the quiet park around it is free to walk.
