Vchynice

The village under the south side of Lovoš that gave the Kinský family its name — Frederick the Great had his headquarters here during the Battle of Lovosice in 1756.

Vchynice lies in the saddle country between Lovoš, Ovčín and Homolka, 3 km from Lovosice, and carries more history than its size suggests. First recorded in the early 13th century, it is the ancestral village of the lords of Vchynice — the family known today as the Kinskýs. In October 1756 the opening battle of the Seven Years’ War was fought on the fields between here and Lovosice, and Frederick the Great ran it from a headquarters in the village. The place goes back much further still: motorway construction in 2008 uncovered a Neolithic rondel enclosure some six thousand years old.

For walkers Vchynice is the natural south-western approach to Lovoš — from the village green the summit cone stands directly overhead.
