A New Way Up Lovoš

A 21.8 km unconventional approach to Lovoš — from Nové Kopisty past the Windsor windmill ruin, through Sulejovice and Vchynice to the summit hut, down to Lovosice.

Everyone climbs Lovoš from Lovosice or Oparno; this route exists because we wanted an approach we hadn’t done. Starting at the tiny Nové Kopisty stop puts the mountain a whole half-day away across the plain — which turns a summit hop into an actual hike, and strings some oddities along the way.

The first of them comes early: Windsor, the round shell of a windmill dressed up as a neo-gothic hunting lodge, standing in the fields by the D8. From there the route works west through Siřejovice and Sulejovice into Vchynice and Bílinka, with Lovoš growing ahead the whole time — the flat kilometres are the price of watching the mountain approach.

All the climbing waits in the final third: the ascent from Bílinka is steep and direct, and the reward is the summit hut — beer and basic food at weekends — plus the full circle over the Labe valley. The descent drops straight into Lovosice for the train back to Prague.
