Lovosice

An industrial Elbe town at the foot of Lovoš and the mouth of Porta Bohemica — the busiest rail gateway into the western České středohoří.
Lovosice is not a destination — it is the door. The town sits on the left bank of the Elbe exactly where the river leaves the mountains through Porta Bohemica, with Lovoš (570 m) rising straight behind the last streets, and its long industrial tradition (chemicals, food) shows. What matters to hikers is the railway junction: the Prague–Děčín main line plus branch lines towards Teplice, Litoměřice and Česká Lípa make it the natural start or finish for most walks in the western half of the range — Lovoš and the Opárno valley on one side, the Hazmburk and Košťálov country on the other.
