Oparno

The village above the Opárenské údolí valley, with a freely accessible Gothic castle ruin on its wooded spur and a rail halt on the Lovosice–Teplice line.

Oparno gives its name to the best-known valley of the western Středohoří: the Opárenské údolí, some 6 km of shady gorge that the Milešovský potok has cut from Velemín down to Malé Žernoseky, walked end to end by a green-marked trail past two old mills. On the wooded spur above the village stand the ruins of Oparno castle, a small Gothic seat from the first half of the 14th century — freely accessible, with views over the valley and the nearer cones of the range.

With the rail halt on the Lovosice–Teplice line, the village is a natural start or finish for routes up Lovoš and towards Milešovka; there are no shops or pubs, so carry what you need or plan around Velemín and Lovosice.
