Three Summits over Lovosice
České středohoří , CHKO České středohoří , Point to point , hiked 6 December 2020
A 24.9 km three-summit day in the central Středohoří over the Oltařík ruin, steep Lipská hora and castle-topped Ostrý, finishing in Lovosice.
This day has three cones, three climbs and three different summits. It is the central Středohoří at its most typical, and a December day with clear air suits it well. Each summit is a short side trip off the through route, so the modest distance adds up to over 700 m of ascent.

From the Podsedice stop the way crosses the fields to Oltařík, the first hill. A small Hussite-era ruin stands on its bare top, with the Hazmburk plain behind you. The hardest climb comes next, past Děkovka. Lipská hora is a steep trachyte cone, and the path goes straight up with no switchbacks. From the summit rocks you look straight at Milešovka.

The third summit, beyond Lipá and Březno, is Ostrý. It is another sharp basalt climb, this time with the Kaplíř castle ruin around the top and Milešovka now very close. From Ostrý it is downhill. A long, easy descent through Bílinka and Vchynice brings you into Lovosice for the train back to Prague.

On the way
-

The ruin of a Hussite castle built after 1426 by captain Jakoubek z Vřesovic on a steep basalt cone above Děkovka. Little remains, and the view is wide.
-

A castle ruin of the Kaplíř family on a basalt cone below Milešovka. It was first mentioned in 1436 and abandoned within a century, and a short steep climb reaches it.
-

An industrial Elbe town at the foot of Lovoš and the mouth of Porta Bohemica, and the busiest rail gateway into the western České středohoří.
