Ostrý (hrad)

A late-Hussite-era castle ruin of the Kaplíř family on a basalt cone below Milešovka — first mentioned 1436, abandoned within a century, with walls and views that repay the steep climb.

Ostrý crowns a basalt cone in the shadow of Milešovka, and its castle had one of the shortest careers in the region: Václav Kaplíř of Sulevice built it at the tail end of the Hussite wars (it enters the records in 1436), and by the mid-16th century the steep rock had already been abandoned as too uncomfortable to live on. What remains — sections of walls and towers grown through with woods — has real atmosphere precisely because nothing was ever rebuilt. The climb is sharp from every side and the reward double: the ruin itself, and the close-up view of Milešovka’s cone across the valley.
