Jezeří Above the Mines

A 31.6 km point-to-point hike along the Krušné hory scarp from Jirkov over Jedlová and Starý Žeberk to the Jezeří chateau and Litvínov.

The day has one steep climb early on, and the rest runs along the rim. The landscape is strange. The beech-forested mountainside and the open-cast mine face each other directly. Both ends are on the railway, the Jirkov stop at the start and Litvínov at the end.

From Jirkov the route follows the foothills north past the Podkrušnohorský přivaděč water channel to Vysoká Pec. There the climb starts. The way up Jedlová is long and steep, through beech woods full of rock towers. From the top the route runs east along the rim to Starý Žeberk on the Jezerka cone. Almost nothing of the castle remains, so do not expect much. The route goes on towards Jezeří. The ruins of the Hraběcí kaple, the former Lobkowicz burial chapel, sit by the lane down to Černice at the very edge of the mine. This ruin still looks good.

Jezeří itself is the main sight of the day. The chateau stands on the slope with the ČSA mine pit directly below. From there the route descends through Horní Jiřetín and follows the foot of the mountains to Litvínov and its railway station.
