Trojhora in the Fog

A 26.7 km point-to-point hike from Ploskovice to Žalhostice over Trojhora, the bare tops above Hlinná and the Kamýk castle ruin.

None of the hills on the way is high, but the viewpoints come one after another and the ups and downs add up — treat it as a full day. Two of the tops ask for careful footing, all the more on wet autumn rock; walked here in late October, the last stretch was finished in the dark.

From Ploskovice station the route climbs north past Těchobuzice to Trojhora. The scramble over its split rock crest is the day’s first test — short, but exposed, and genuinely slippery when wet; in return you get the first big view. The way then turns west through the meadow country of Babinské louky — open, quiet upland at its best in autumn colours — and on to Holý vrch above Hlinná, whose bare grassy tops give what may be the finest panorama of the whole range.

Hlinná below is the natural half-way stop: a village pub for lunch or just a beer. From there the route continues over Plešivec — the summit is nothing but a pile of basalt blocks, so again watch your step, and again the view repays it — and drops to the Kamýk castle ruin on its rock above the Elbe. A last pub in Malíč breaks the final descent, and the day ends at Žalhostice station under the vineyards; trains run from here towards Lovosice and Litoměřice.
