Holý vrch u Hlinné

Steppe grassland on the bare tops above Hlinná — a nature reserve since 1949 for its pasque flowers, with one of the great open panoramas of the České středohoří.

The hills just north of Hlinná are bare — grassy tops with basalt outcrops instead of the forest that covers most summits of the range, kept open by centuries of grazing. The reserve here, declared back in 1949, protects pasque flowers (both the open and the Bohemian meadow species) along with the rocky steppe they grow on, on slopes running up towards Lysá hora (577 m). Late April is the time to catch the flowers.

Because the tops are treeless, the walking is all views: the central České středohoří stands around in a full circle, and the panorama from the grass above Hlinná counts among the finest in the whole range.
