Two Days Among the Ponds
Třeboňsko , CHKO Třeboňsko , Point to point , hiked 26 October 2024
A 44.8 km two-day walk through the Třeboňsko pond country, with an overnight stop in Třeboň.
The paths here run on dikes between water, reeds and pine woods. Ponds set the pace instead of hills. This is the flattest hiking country in Bohemia. There is almost no climbing, so the distance is the whole effort, and Třeboň splits it conveniently in half for the night.
Day 1: Suchdol nad Lužnicí to Třeboň
From Suchdol station the route heads northwest through woods and pond chains via Hrachoviště to Domanín. Just past the village, in the park by the Svět pond, you come to the Schwarzenberg Tomb. Take the short detour, this landscape was the family’s estate. From the tomb the way goes around the Svět pond into Třeboň. You have the whole evening for the square and the local Regent beer.
Day 2: Třeboň to Lomnice nad Lužnicí
The second day leaves through Břilice and turns west to the village of Dunajovice, then north into the Velký and Malý Tisý national nature reserve. The dike paths cross one of the country’s big bird reserves, with open water and reed beds on both sides for kilometres. The walk ends at Lomnice nad Lužnicí station, on the railway line back through Třeboň.
