Schwarzenberg Tomb

The neo-Gothic burial chapel of the Schwarzenberg family (1874–1877) in a quiet park by the Svět pond outside Třeboň.

In the park southeast of the Svět pond, twenty minutes’ walk from Třeboň’s square, stands the burial chapel of the Schwarzenbergs — the family that owned the Třeboň estate for its last two aristocratic centuries. Jan Adolf II had it built in 1874–1877 at the wish of his wife Eleonora: a hexagonal neo-Gothic chapel with a grand double staircase, a sandstone-and-marble altar, and a crypt holding 26 coffins of the family. It is open to visitors in season, and the setting — formal park giving way to pond-side woods — makes it an easy and worthwhile detour on the way into town.
