The Border Ridge to Krupka

A 30 km ridge walk along the eastern Krušné hory from Hrob over Bouřňák and border-straddling Cínovec down to Krupka-Bohosudov.

The day has a simple shape. You climb once at the start, then the route stays high and crosses back and forth along the Czech–Saxon border, and at the far end it drops off the scarp. Unusually for the Krušné hory, you pass refreshment stops at regular intervals. The ridge villages and huts are open all year.

From Hrob the red waymarks climb right away, up the ski slope of Bouřňák. The historic hut on the summit is the first chance for a break, and there is a good view back over the České středohoří. The route then runs north along the plateau past Pramenáč to Nové Město, crosses the border into Georgenfeld and Zinnwald on the German side, and comes back at Cínovec. Cínovec is one village in two countries.

From Cínovec the way turns southeast along the crest and slowly loses height. At the scarp edge the final descent drops steeply into Krupka. The finish at the Krupka-Bohosudov stop passes the pilgrimage basilica. Have a look inside before the train.
