A Winter Pilgrimage to Říp

A short 19.2 km winter pilgrimage to Říp — red waymark from Mlčechvosty past the Jevín earthworks and village pubs, over the mountain, blue down to Roudnice.
The short winter version of the národní pouť: a half-day approach to Říp from the south, with pubs spaced through the villages and trains at both ends. January suits the mountain — bare orchards, long views, and none of the summer procession.
From the Mlčechvosty stop the red waymark climbs gently through Jeviněves, passing the Jevín earthworks in the woods above the village — thirty seconds off the trail for a proper medieval moat. The route continues through Černouček and Ctiněves, both with village pubs for a warm-up stop, with Říp filling more and more of the view ahead; from Ctiněves, the traditional burial place of Čech himself in local legend, the final climb begins.
The summit rotunda and the ring path do their usual work — the whole of central Bohemia arranged around you — and the blue waymark then takes the north side down through Vesce into Roudnice nad Labem, where the station is a short walk past the square.

Jevín
The earthwork remains of a small medieval castle above Jeviněves — reputedly a robber-knight's seat destroyed in the 14th century, with a massive neck moat still readable in the woods.

Říp
The national mountain of Bohemia — a lone basalt dome over the plain where legend puts Forefather Čech, crowned by the Romanesque rotunda of St George rebuilt in 1126.

Roudnice nad Labem
An old Elbe town below Říp, dominated by the vast Baroque Lobkowicz chateau built over a Romanesque castle of the Prague bishops.
