Over Praha to Příbram

A 57.2 km two-day winter crossing of the Brdy — Stupno to Příbram over the radar summit of Praha, with a night in Strašice.

The first day works along the northern Brdy foothills: from the Stupno railway station through Těškov and Mýto, rolling country that saves the real forest for tomorrow.

Day 1 — Stupno to Strašice

Strašice at the day’s end is the right kind of trail town — a former garrison village with pubs, beds and a museum of the Brdy in the old barracks. Dinner and a warm room in January feel earned after ~25 km.

Day 2 — over Praha to Příbram

Day two is the crossing. From Strašice the route climbs steadily into the former military forest — long straight roads, frost-broken rock under the spruce, and in January a good chance of unbroken snow — up to Praha, the second summit of the Brdy, where the white radar ball that has been on the horizon for two days finally stands overhead. The summit compound is fenced and viewless; the mood of the empty plateau is the point. The long descent runs out through Kozičín and Lazec to Příbram, and Žárovka in town finishes the job properly — decent food, decent beer, and a rail connection home.
