Okolí Prahy
city edge
The day-hike belt of the capital — river canyons, forested ridges and rocky valleys that start and end at a tram or commuter train.
No approach travel, no base town: a full day’s walk with proper climbing can start at a metro station and end at a tram stop, any month of the year. The good walking concentrates where the Vltava and its tributaries cut real canyons — Divoká Šárka, the Prokopské and Dalejské valleys, the Radotín karst — and along forested ridges like the Hřebeny, which run straight out of the suburbs towards the Brdy. None of it is wilderness and services are never far; the art is stringing the green corridors together between them.
The edge country is better than a capital deserves, and this region collects the hikes that orbit the city: along the Vltava towards Roztoky, the Sázava confluence country in the south-east, and the transitions onto the neighbouring Český kras and Křivoklátsko.
