Mělník stands where the country’s two great rivers meet: from the château terrace and the church tower you look straight down onto the Vltava joining the Labe, with Říp on the horizon — a view that has been drawing Prague day-trippers for two centuries. The slope below the town carries vineyards that tradition traces to Charles IV, who brought Burgundy vines here, and the Lobkowicz château runs tastings of the result. The church of St Peter and Paul above the confluence keeps a bone-stacked ossuary in its crypt. A practical trailhead too: trains and buses, and river-plain walking in every direction.
