Hazmburk at Dusk

A 30.8 km solo winter walk across the Ohře country. It passes Peruc and the Stradonka lookout, reaches Hazmburk at dusk and finishes in Třebenice in the dark.

Hazmburk is in view for most of these thirty kilometres, and the whole route is one long approach to it. I walked it solo in February, and the short winter daylight matters. I finished in the dark. Plan for that, or start earlier than I did.

From the Slavětín stop the way crosses the fields to Slavětín village and on to Peruc. Take the time for the village, it is the prettiest thing before the castle. From the Stradonka lookout just beyond you see Hazmburk, the day’s destination, straight ahead across the Ohře. The route then drops to the river at Křesín and Levousy and crosses into the open country below the castle hill.

The climb to Hazmburk came late in my day, and the gate was already closed. I climbed over. That is a fact, not a recommendation, and in season the site keeps normal opening hours. Dusk on the bare basalt ridge is what I came for. The final stretch north to Třebenice went by headlamp, ending at the station in full dark.
