Up Klíč for the View

A short 7.3 km hop over Klíč (760 m), the bare phonolite cone above Nový Bor — big summit view for little effort, from Svor down to Nový Bor.

Railway stations at both ends make this an easy half-day — an add-on to a day in the region, or a short winter outing. The single objective is Klíč: nearly all the walking is either the way up its cone or the way down.

From Svor the route climbs steadily west through forest; all of the day’s ascent is packed into this first stretch. The final rise to the summit is a rocky zig-zag — the top itself is an open rock platform, exposed to the wind, with the full circle from Ještěd across the Lužické hory to the České středohoří. In late winter the rock wall on the south-west side can carry icefalls, and the summit path may be icy — early March conditions can still be full winter up here.

The descent runs south-west, dropping through the woods with Nový Bor in view most of the way, and ends at the Nový Bor railway station. The town’s glassmaking museum and pubs are a natural finish if the walk left you time.
