Into the Aš Promontory

A 12.8 km point-to-point hike through the Ašsko borderland woods from Hazlov to Aš.

A short, easy half-day through the quietest corner of the country: the Ašsko promontory, where Bohemia narrows to a wooded strip with Germany on both horizons. It suits a late start or an autumn afternoon, and both ends are on the same railway line, so logistics take care of themselves.

From the Hazlov stop — the village’s joined castle-and- church complex is worth a look before setting out — the route joins the blue-marked long-distance trail that runs the length of the promontory from Cheb, and follows it northwest through gently rising woods and meadows, past Skalka and through Mokřiny, into Aš. The town repays a wander: the Luther monument, the textile-era villas, and — with an hour to spare — the climb to the Háj lookout tower above town before the train back.
