Pokličky
rock town · Kokořínsko
The signature rocks of Kokořínsko — sandstone stems capped by harder iron-bound "lids", standing over the Kokořínský důl valley with a stepped path up to them.
The Pokličky — “pot lids” — are what Kokořínsko puts on its postcards: pillars of soft sandstone that erosion has slimmed into stems, each protected by a cap of harder, iron-cemented sandstone that resists the rain. The tallest lids stand about seven metres over the rim of the Kokořínský důl valley, and a stepped path climbs to them from the valley road; the platform between the caps gives the classic view down the wooded canyon.
They are a protected natural monument — stay on the path, since every stem is actively eroding — and the marked trails continue along the plateau towards Mšeno one way and Kokořín castle the other.
