Plešivec (Brdy)

The sacred mountain of the Hřebeny — a 654 m summit ringed by one of Bohemia's largest late Bronze Age hillforts, with the Čertova kazatelna rock viewpoint over the Litavka valley.

Plešivec is not the highest of the Brdy hills but it may be the most storied: the entire 57-hectare summit was ringed by ramparts in the late Bronze Age, one of the largest hillforts in Bohemia, and the hill has produced so many bronze hoards over the centuries that it earned a reputation as a mountain of treasures — most of the finds were melted down or given to children as toys before archaeology got to them. The rampart lines still show in the woods. Just below the top, the Čertova kazatelna (Devil’s Pulpit) — in prosaic fact a remnant of old quarrying — juts out as the hill’s viewpoint, with a panorama board and benches looking over the Litavka valley to the main Brdy ridge.
