Hvězda (Broumovské stěny)

Dientzenhofer's star-shaped chapel of Our Lady of the Snows (1733) on the cliff edge of the Broumovské stěny, with a Swiss-style wooden chalet beside it and the whole Broumov basin below.

Hvězda is the emblem of the Broumovské stěny: a small baroque chapel on a five-pointed star plan, built 1732–33 to Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer’s design for the Broumov Benedictines, standing directly on the cliff edge with the chequerboard of the Broumov basin spread below and the Javoří hory ridge closing the horizon on the Polish border. Beside it a Swiss-style timber chalet from 1854 serves as a seasonal mountain restaurant — the classic ridge rest.

Trails converge here from every direction — the crest path of the Broumovské stěny, the climb from Křinice on the Broumov side and from Hlavňov on the Police side — which makes Hvězda the natural pivot of any day on the wall.
