Broumovské stěny

The sandstone wall between the Broumov and Police basins — a national nature reserve ridge of rock gates, caves and the Skalní divadlo amphitheatre, topped by Božanovský Špičák at 773 m.

The Broumovské stěny are a cuesta — a long sandstone wave lifted between two basins, gentle on the Police side, dropping in cliffs towards Broumov — and the ridge path along them is one of the best sandstone walks in the country, protected as a national nature reserve. The high point is Božanovský Špičák (773 m), a dome of huge weathered blocks; strung along the crest come the Koruna viewpoint, the Kamenná brána rock gate, the Kovárna cave, and above Hlavňov the Skalní divadlo — the “rock theatre”, an amphitheatre of towers that earns its name.

Mid-ridge stands Hvězda with its star chapel and wooden chalet, the traditional halfway rest. Water is scarce on the crest and the villages sit low on either side — plan the day around the flanking pubs in Hlavňov or Křinice.
