Děd

The oldest tourist lookout tower in Bohemia — the KČT's first, a 12-metre stone tower of 1893 on the wooded hill above Beroun; closed for repairs since 2022.

The stone tower on Děd (492 m) above Beroun is where Czech lookout towers began: built in 1893 to Jindřich Muldner’s design, it was the very first tower raised by the Club of Czech Tourists, and counts as the oldest tourist lookout in Bohemia. Twelve metres tall, some sixty steps, built of white Královův Dvůr brick. Time has been ironic to it — the surrounding forest has grown past the gallery, eating most of the view toward Křivoklátsko, the Brdy and Prague, and the tower has been closed since autumn 2022 awaiting reconstruction (the town is considering raising it above the treetops). The wooded summit is still a natural waypoint on routes from Beroun into the Křivoklátsko.
