Lichnice and the Foothills

A 30.6 km north-bound traverse off the Železné hory. Lichnice castle comes first, then lunch in Heřmanův Městec, a beer at Choltice château and a flat finish to Přelouč.

The day is easy to plan. All the climbing comes in the first hour, so you can take your time at the castle and still stay on schedule. Přelouč at the far end is on a fast main line, so even after a late finish you get home quickly.

From Třemošnice station the way climbs through Podhradí to Lichnice. Go up the Milada platform, it stands where the castle tower did. This is the highest point of the day. From here the route goes downhill on average all the way to the Labe plain.

The middle third crosses the foothills through Míčov and Konopáč to Heřmanův Městec, the lunch town. Have a look at its Jewish quarter before moving on. After that the flat second half passes through Raškovice and Jedousov to Choltice. A beer in the château courtyard under the chapel of St Romedius makes a good late stop. The final kilometres into Přelouč are plain walking to the station.
