Valeč

A Baroque showpiece village on the south-eastern edge of the Doupovské hory — castle, terraced park with Braun-workshop statues, and the Holy Trinity church with its 1730 column.

Valeč is one of the most remarkable Baroque ensembles in the country, sitting on the south-eastern edge of the Doupovské hory. The whole village is a heritage zone: the castle got its great Baroque rebuilding at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, and its park — once counted among the finest in Central Europe — carries a collection of statues from the workshop of Matyáš Bernard Braun, allegories and figures from Greek mythology (the originals are kept in the castle lapidarium).

Below the castle stand the church of the Holy Trinity, built as part of the same Baroque campaign, and in front of it a Holy Trinity column from 1730, also from Braun’s workshop.
