Tábor (Český ráj)

A 678 m hill south of Lomnice nad Popelkou with the brick Tichánkova rozhledna (1911, 35 m, 145 steps) and the Hornychova chata tourist hut next to it — a circular view from the Krkonoše to the České středohoří.

Tábor is the big viewpoint of the eastern Český ráj borderlands. The first wooden tower of 1888 lasted nine years in the summit weather; the brick Tichánkova rozhledna that replaced it opened in 1911 — 35 m tall, with the viewing gallery at 26 m up 145 steps. On a clear day the circle runs from the Jizerské hory and Krkonoše over Kozákov to Jičín and, in the right conditions, as far as Prague. The Hornychova chata beside the tower, named after the mill-owner who paid off the building society’s debts, serves hikers to this day.
