Štěpánovská hora

A basalt summit on the western edge of the České středohoří whose steep steppe slopes — protected since 1952 — carry feather grass and pasque flowers, with views west to Bořeň and the Krušné hory.

Štěpánovská hora stands on the western rim of the České středohoří above the villages of Štěpánov and Lukov. Its steep southern and south-western slopes are one of the highest steppe sites in the range, a nature reserve since 1952: feather grass, pasque flowers and other dry-grassland rarities hold on here, grazed through by mouflon. The summit clearing looks down the Štěpánov and Lukov valleys, and from the western edge the view runs to Bílina, the rock fang of Bořeň and the long wall of the Krušné hory — with the Radovesice spoil heap in the foreground as a reminder of what mining did to this side of the hills.
