Sovice

A lone 278 m hill above the Podřipsko plain — "the little Říp" — settled from the Neolithic to the early Middle Ages, with traces of ramparts on its summit plateau.

Sovice is a solitary, part-wooded hill rising from the fields between Vetlá and Štětí, sometimes called a little Říp for the way it stands alone over the plain. Its flat triangular top has been lived on for most of human history here: excavations proved settlement in the Eneolithic, the Early Bronze Age Únětice culture and the Hallstatt period, and again in the 9th–10th centuries, when an early medieval settlement or stronghold occupied the summit. Erosion and ploughing have taken most of the fortifications, but a low rampart and ditch can still be made out, and the short climb earns a wide view over the Podřipsko with Říp itself across the plain.
