Krásenský vrch

A 25 m stone lookout tower of 1935 climbed by an external spiral ramp modelled on the Samarra minaret — an unemployment-relief build that became one of the country's loveliest towers.

The tower on Krásenský vrch (777 m) above Krásno is unlike any other in the country: a squat stone cone wound with an external spiral ramp, inspired — improbably — by the great minaret of Samarra in Mesopotamia. It was built in 1933–35 as an unemployment-relief project for the struggling mining town below, to a design by the sculptor Willy Russ, and opened in June 1935. The 120 steps of the spiral deliver a panorama across the Slavkovský les plateau to the Krušné hory and the Doupovské hory; the tower is freely accessible.
