Kalich Castle

Ruin of the castle Jan Žižka built for himself in 1421 — he took his epithet "of the Kalich" from it. A short climb above Řepčice with wide views of the středohoří.

Kalich was founded in 1421 by the Hussite commander Jan Žižka of Trocnov, who conquered the site and built a castle he named Kalich (“Chalice”) — and from then on styled himself Žižka of the Kalich. After his death in 1424 the castle changed hands several times and was abandoned by the end of the 15th century. Since 2015 the ruin has been cared for by the volunteer association Hrady Českého středohoří.
