Hlinsko

A town on the upper Chrudimka at the edge of the Žďárské vrchy, best known for Betlém — a preserved quarter of 18th- and 19th-century timber cottages, now part of the Vysočina open-air museum.

Hlinsko sits on the upper Chrudimka where the Žďárské vrchy fall away to the north, a town built on pottery, weaving and later toy-making. Its heart is Betlém: a riverside quarter of timber cottages from the 18th and 19th centuries where the craftsmen lived, preserved whole and run today as part of the Vysočina open-air museum — you walk lanes of dark log houses ten minutes from the town square. The railway station on the Pardubice–Havlíčkův Brod line makes it a convenient end point for crossings of the hills to the south.
