Hlavatice

A sandstone lookout rock above Turnov, climbed by an iron spiral staircase since 1908 — the first viewpoint on the red Golden Trail into the Hruboskalsko rocks.

Hlavatice is a free-standing sandstone tower over twelve metres tall on the edge of the Hruboskalsko rock town, a short climb above Turnov on the red-marked Golden Trail of the Český ráj. A lookout has stood on it since 1894, first with a wooden stairway; the iron spiral staircase of 36 steps that still carries visitors up was added by the Turnov branch of the hiking club in 1908–09. A copper orientation table on the platform names what you see: Turnov below, the Jizera valley, and Ještěd on the horizon. The staircase and platform were renovated in spring 2025.
