Františkovy Lázně

The smallest of the west Bohemian spa triangle — yellow-and-white empire architecture, the František spring, and UNESCO Great Spa Towns status since 2021.

Františkovy Lázně is the spa triangle’s miniature: founded in 1793 around the František spring and built almost in one go, which left it with an unusually pure townscape — empire and classicist pavilions in the local yellow-and-white, set in a ring of parkland larger than the town itself. Since 2021 it shares the UNESCO Great Spa Towns of Europe inscription with Karlovy Vary and Mariánské Lázně. The bronze Františka figurine collects the superstitions; the parks collect the walkers. The flat woods and meadows south toward Cheb — with the Komorní hůrka volcano stub en route — make an easy half-day link between the two towns.
