A little town on the eastern edge of the Kokořínsko sandstone country that was once a leading hop region — its twin-towered hop kiln is the only one of its kind left in Bohemia.
Dubá sits where the Kokořínsko plateau runs out towards the Máchův kraj ponds, and for a village-sized town it carries a surprising industrial past: the surrounding country was one of the leading hop regions of Bohemia, with hop markets held in town and a local variety — the Dubský zeleňák — guarded by its own quality office. The monument to that era is the hop kiln at the edge of the centre: two round drying towers of a type common in England but unique in Bohemia, recently restored and opened along with the town’s rock-cut cellars.
For walkers Dubá is the natural service stop of the eastern Kokořínsko — shops and pubs on the square, bus connections, and marked trails leaving into the sandstone in every direction.
